Non-Christian

We debated whether to have a catalogue of texts related to Non-Christian works in general.

We strongly urge Catholics who are new to the Faith to consider studying their own history and faith before delving into the ideas of others which could distort their own views.

The conclusion was that if a book is not known to have been on the Index of Forbidden Books or was of widespread use by the faithful, that  book must have met one of 3 criteria:*

1. "Christians of the past have referred to these texts in a way that helps further the understanding of our Faith." The philosophy of Plato that informed much of St. Paul's approach would be a prime example.

2. "The book provides a context for a Christian writer's work so that we today can help understand the writer as an individual in an historical period." An archeological study of the Bible by a Rabbinical school would be an example here.

3. "The book, though written by a non Christian writer, is of such value that it crosses religious lines and is of value to the whole world yet doesn't diminish a Catholic's faith but in fact enhances it." The works of Aristotle would fall into this category.

*If one of our books is known to have been included in the Index of Forbidden Books or does not meet one of the criteria, please notify us immediately so that it can be placed on hold until a formal review can take place. Thank you. The Publishers.
